As a reputable RIBA chartered architectural firm Atelier 41 Architects have extensive experience in designing loft conversions. We understand the unique challenges and opportunities presented by these projects, including maximizing space, ensuring structural integrity, and complying with building regulations.

This project involved 2x full width dormers to two existing houses which were later converted into a block of 6 self contained flats.

A beautifully crafted lead-clad dormer window can be a striking architectural feature that adds both elegance and character to a building's facade.

The design is characterized by:

  • Exquisite Craftsmanship: The lead cladding on the dormer window and every detail, from the precise seams to the intricate detailing, showcases the skill and attention to detail.

  • Symmetry and Proportions: The dormer window is designed with a sense of balance and proportion that harmonizes with the overall architecture of the building. It complements the style and scale of the structure seamlessly.

  • Lead Patina: Over time, the lead cladding will develop a subtle, natural patina that adds depth and character to the window. The patina may have soft shades of gray, giving it a weathered yet timeless appearance.

croham ROAD, Croydon - loft conversion with dormers

This loft conversion with dormers and vaulted ceilings in a loft space offer not only aesthetic beauty but also practical advantages such as improved natural light, spatial perception, and ventilation. It turned out to be a key feature in creating a visually stunning and inviting living or working environment. The design is characterized by:

  1. Architectural Elegance: it creates a sense of grandeur and sophistication, making a space feel more open and airy.

  2. Natural Light: The increased ceiling height allows for larger windows or skylights, which flood the space with natural light.

  3. Spatial Perception: Vaulted ceilings can make a small loft appear much larger than it actually is. The upward-sloping design draws the eye upward, creating a feeling of spaciousness.

  4. Unique Design : The unique shape of a vaulted ceiling opens up opportunities for creative interior design.

  5. Ventilation and Airflow: The increased vertical space can improve ventilation and airflow in the loft, leading to a more comfortable living environment. This is especially important in spaces with limited windows or air circulation.

  6. Increased Acoustic Performance: reduction of sound passage
